So with the first week of the PGA Tour in the books, what have we learnt? Well we have learnt these rookies can really play! The eventual winner this week was Russell Henley, who shot -24 in his first PGA Tour event this was accomplished with three rounds of 63 and a round of 67 a fantastic feat for any pro player, but for a guy in his first event that is something special. He showed massive confidence all weekend and in the end never looked like faltering.

Another big performance this week came from another rookie Scott Langley, who shot the low round of the tournament with a round of -8 (also shot by Harris English in RD3) making him the first round leader this week. Langley came T3 with Charles Howell III,  behind Tim Clark in 2nd and Henley in 1st place. Langley looked good all week trading shots with his fellow rookie Henley  all 3 rounds before the 4th round where he seemed to burn out, Henley went on to again shoot a -7 63 on the last day with Langley shooting level par.

So what did this mean for our bets in week 1?

Charles Howell III 28/1 / 25/1 1pt e/w (Win) +8pts : Charles did exactly what I expected him to do, the only disappointment being that he couldn’t win. Charles always looked to be in contention, he always does at this tournament and this week was no different. His -17 in the end resulted in him coming T3 with the event being won with -24. The level was raised this week by the rookie Henley, however it was a nice each way win if you were on him, if you were well done.

Carl Pettersson 22/1 / 20/1 1pt e/w (Loser) -2pts :  A very disappointing week from the Swede and nowhere near what I expected from him. With a final score of -3 and a lowest round of -2 Carl finished in T59 which was not his best week. I really believed he would put in a strong performance this week in a field that he could take advantage of, but it wasn’t to be and he will look to improve in the coming weeks.

Keegan Bradley 16/1 1pt Win (Loser) -1pt : Another player that I expected bigger things from. He had a very frustrating week that only really went to plan on Saturday when he shot -4 par which could of been even better. Bradley shot +1 on the last day which will not of pleased him, but as a bet he was out of the race by the start of Day 3 and couldn’t prevent himself from coming a lowly T49.

Jonas Blixt 40/1 1pt e/w (Loser) -2pts : Not a good week at all from Blixt. I thought 40/1 was a massive price for him off the back of last season, however he justified his odds by being the only player from last weeks tips to miss the cut.  Posting -1 on the first day I knew it was a slow start, but I thought he would of gone a charge day 2, only for him to go on and shoot 3 over par and rule himself out for the weekend.  He was the outside tip but I expected a lot better of him and I am sure he will still go on to have a great season.

A nice each way win in the end from Howell, which saved us from what could of been a very disappointing week. I will be posting again tomorrow as we take a look ahead at this weeks betting for the Humana Challenge which starts Thursday in California.
