The Golf Family – A Bit On The Side Week 2

Welcome to the second week new feature column, “A Bit On The Side”.

Each of our three writers will be picking one bet from any side market for the week, whether it be a First Round Leader, a Top-20 or so on and so forth. If there is value to be had and a bet liked outside of the outright selections, it will be featured in this column.

These can range from short-odd selections, even match-bets to outside First Round Leader shouts, so if it is variety you are after when looking for an angle, this could well be the column for you.

Without further ado, here are the three side market bets, we at the Golf Family like this week. (Just two this week as Tom has taken his golf winnings on holiday with him)

Jason Daniels – Romain Langasque Top-20 (Tshwane Open) 10-3

Having landed a 3-1 winner in our first week of the new column, we now stay in South Africa with a bet on an improving youngster. Much of his case is made in the main article here https://thegolffamily.com/double-trouble-wgc-mexico-tshwane/ but with form figures in SA last year of 18/11/21 including around here (weekend 68/67) and a warm-up 13th last week, the former top-class amateur and 2016 Masters 39th can make an impact in an otherwise weak field.

Steven Gray – Joost Luiten Top 20 @ 13/5 (WGC Mexico)

While it’s a little dull to include the same player I think this looks like a rock solid way to play one of the live outsiders in Mexico. With such a top class field it’s entirely possible Luiten could play brilliantly for four days and still finish 11th. A top 20 bet gives us a more achievable target and some nice cover against him struggling to keep up with the game’s elite. As touched on in the main preview, nobody performed better tee-to-green than Joost did at Chapultepec last year and with his putter being on fire when winning last time out, a top 20 looks very achievable here. The standout price of 13/5 looks a little dismissive of his talent when playing his best golf and even the general 11/5 looks more than fair.
