Q&A: Chris Hanson

Four-time EuroPro winner, Chris Hanson is now plying his trade on the European Tour. We at the Golf Family recently caught up with him to see how he is feeling about his season so far and the future.

Chris, this is your first full season on the European Tour, how are you finding it?

CH: It has been great so far. I think finishing Tour School and then heading straight out to South Africa a day later helped!

I had no time to let the achievement sink in or think about it, and I was obviously playing well from Tour School so I had a great first week at Leopard Creek!

Also due to knowing a lot of people from Challenge Tour events and some European Tour events I have played over the years, I was really made to feel welcome from day one!

You have managed two Top-10s and missed just two cuts on the European Tour in this season, which can only be positive, how does your season compare so far to your expectations at the start of the year?

CH: I know I’m doing a lot of the right things with my game, I have a great team of people around me so I knew results would come at some point – I just had to be patient!

I’ve also got my self into some great positions after two rounds but failed to capitalise on them which is something I really want to improve on!

Since finishing 4th in Madrid on the Challenge Tour in the first week of May you have made every cut and are playing very well, did something click that week?

CH: Again I stuck to my process. My coach Mark Pearson is fantastic, we leave no stone unturned and we knew we were heading in the right direction!

I also started working with a new Mental Coach, Mark Baber. He got me back into some great habits and I’ve stuck too them really well!

Knowing what works with your game is key, but then keeping too it is something I need to get better with!!

What has been the biggest difference between playing on the European Tour compared to the Challenge Tour?

CH: Courses are tougher, but mainly how the rough is set up. It rewards players who drive the ball well which I really like!

The hospitality on the main tour is incredible too, you are looked after like superstars, I just really hope everyone knows I appreciate it!!

Going forward what is the aim for the rest of the season?

CH: Just to keep to my process, results will hopefully take care of themselves then.

Of course you always want to win and be in contention but sometimes they are out of your control.

Are you a big fan of links golf and what do you think it will take to win here in Scotland this week?

CH: I’ve never played a lot of links golf, but this is not quite an Open kind of links course.

It’s a pretty wide open course, with big greens! It looks like it always tends to be a low scoring week here, but the weather could soon change that!

The Golf Family would like to thank Chris for his time and wish him all the best for the future.
