Week 4 PGA Tour Review: Waste Management Phoenix Tips Results

This tournament belonged to one man this week, and he was never letting go. Phil Mickelson. Mickelson led from round 1 after hitting a 60, which so easily could of been a 59 if it were not for the unfortunate horseshoe 360 act the ball played with the hole at the last. Phil went on to win in style wire-wire. The only time he went behind was when he wasn’t on the course, and in the end he held of extreme pressure from Snedeker in the final round to eventually win by four shots. A great win for Phil and one that will fill him with confidence going into his title defence this week at Pebble Beach! So how did the tips get on this week?

Jason Dufner 14/1 3pts win (Loser) -3pts: Dufner led the disappointing results this week, he was cut finishing on just -3 after two days, which at this event is nowhere near what you expect from a market leader! He never looked like kicking on and it was apparent after the start of day 2 that he had no chance of winning this week, which I was very surprised about.

Keegan Bradley 40/1 1pt e/w (Loser) -2pts: Keegan had an up and down week and in the end tailed off dramatically, which was in no small part down to his 3rd round, playing with Phil and Bill Haas he failed to turn up shooting +2 which came just a day after he put himself briefly in the lead (before Mickelson teed off) posting a round low score -8 63. He did shoot -3 on the last day but unfortunately he was well out of contention by then and would of needed a 59 to even get himself a top 5 finish.

Russell Henley 66/1 1pt e/w (Loser) -2pts: An attractive price was the main reason for picking Henley this week, as it’s still very hard to tell how he’s going to settle in on tour. He didn’t have a bad week, making yet another cut showing that he is more than capable of playing and his win wasn’t just fluke. He didn’t however make any impact on the leaders and never looked like getting a place and I’m sure he will hope to do better in Phoenix next time round.

Luke Guthrie 100/1 1pt e/w (Loser) -2pts: Guthrie statistically was the worst pick of the week, finishing just -2 but he wasn’t the biggest surprise, that title was taken by Dufner. Guthrie did make 8 birdies, but with 24 pars over his two rounds and 2 double bogeys he could not contend at the top and unfortunately he did not get going. This shouldn’t do much to Guthrie’s confidence, he seems to of already put it behind posting on Twitter how much he was looking forward to Pebble Beach and lets hope he can get his first full season started soon.

It wasn’t all doom and gloom however as Thorbjorn Olesen managed to finish in 3rd place in Dubai gaining +5.5 points, although Michael Campbell’s disappointing week slowly took 2pts away from that. So on the week 7.5 points were lost and that was not what we were after.

Profit/Loss for 2013: -23

Looking to move swiftly on the AT&T Pebble Beach National and the Joburg Open are our destinations this week and let’s hope some profit can be made on the week. With three 3rd place finishes coming in over four weeks there’s no need to worry just yet and a win cannot be too far away. @TomJacobs8 on Twitter for any questions and feedback you may have.
